10 Years of Liftoff Entertainment

On February 1st, 2020, Liftoff Entertainment celebrated 10 years in business.   It has been an exciting ride and we love being apart of the Dayton Community. But how did it all begin?

Moving back to Dayton

It all started in December of 2009, when Jay Nigro, decided it was time to start a new chapter of his life.   Jay had been travelling for a mobile marketing company since graduating UD in the spring of 2006. He loved what he did but living out of a suitcase for 210 out of the years had taken its toll.   Jay decided that it was a great time to further his education by working towards an MBA at the University of Dayton.

In early Jan of 2010, Jay moved back to dayton and started taking his first class, a business plan writing class.   Jay has always had a passion for being an entertainer and was intrigued by owning a business. This was the perfect segway and instead of writing a business plan on a fake business, he decided to write one on a DJ business yet to be named.  He had a little bit of experience DJing but had really honed his skills in leading crowds and being comfortable talking on a microphone while travelling for many different high profile clients.

How did the name come about?

An obvious part of writing a business plan was naming the business.   Sitting on his couch in his apartment with his brother next to him, the naming process started.   Jay wanted a descriptive name but wanted to leave the business open for growth and potential additions to the products and services offered.  Because of this, they purposefully, tried to stay away from music descriptors like Tune, Note, Song, etc. What would be catchy enough for people to remember the name but not force the company into a box.   After an exhausting list of descriptors and domain availability searches, Liftoff Entertainment was born.

How to utilize new technologies?

During the process of writing his business plan, Jay dove into a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats).  Through this process, Jay realized that the DJ industry was changing. MP3s, larger memory storage, easier access to music, and new technologies, were all factors to consider with this new venture.  Understanding these changes, being first to market was an early goal of Liftoff Entertainment

Scalability and Photo Booths

One factor to consider was scalability.  There are only so many friday and saturday nights within a year
